Last night was the unveiling of two new pieces at the Classic Monster art show at Halloweentown in Burbank. http://www.halloweentownstore.com/page/HS/CTGY/Tribute_To_Classic_Monsters
Was really a great show and a huge turn-out with lots of enthusiastic patrons. People were lined up outside down the block in the rain! Some waiting over 40 mins to get in.  So needless to say it was a very successful event.

So I have always wanted to paint the Lon Chaney version of the Phantom of the Opera. He's one of my earliest memories from the monster movies of that era and just so cool and creepy. He's the first painting I did in my recent series of four. (then came Karloff as the mummy and Bela's Dracula).  I finished the series off with the Masque of the Red Death (also from The Phantom of the Opera). The phantom dons this disguise to enter the masquerade ball. Very cool moment in the film. I just wanted to paint this one as if you were looking into an inferno as this character is so filled with pain and rage!

These were a lot of fun to paint and I'm already starting on few new ones for all you monster fans out there. At some point I'll have to jump in on some more of my favorite musicians and other movie moments, but for now I've been bitten by the monster! And I must obey!
